Ruskee Porterfield, LMSW

You are the author of your own story; therefore, you know you best.

Your story is important. Your story is beautiful. Your story is what makes you, you.

As your therapist, we use your story to allow for true growth and transformation. Starting therapy can feel like the most vulnerable experience you will encounter, especially with someone you have never met. Speaking with a stranger about the deepest parts of ourselves can sometimes feel daunting and unnerving. You are not alone in these feelings. I seek to provide you with a safe space that allows you to find passion in your life and remove blocks that are keeping you from thriving. Living the life you deserve, and desire, is so important.  As your therapist, providing you an environment that allows you to feel the most comfortable, heard, valued, and transformed are top priority.

Therapy is not always easy, there will be challenging moments, but you will never have to face those challenging moments alone. There is the saying “we do not grow where we are comfortable” and I believe this to be true. Feeling uncomfortable for the purpose of growth is a good thing, and you will see this more throughout therapy, as the uncomfortable moments cause you to step out of your comfort zone, express yourself in ways you may not have thought you could, love yourself deeper, and accept all the beautiful parts of you.

Through the use of many techniques to help you and your unique circumstances, we can reach these goals together. I will always meet you where you are at, without judgment and with intentions of helping you become successful in reaching your goals. Having a trusting, collaborative relationship is important to help you feel the most safe and secure in your therapeutic journey. We will love, encourage, nurture, and respect all parts of your story, your emotions and your thoughts and use these things to uncover a deeper understanding of who you are as a person.

Therapy can be fun too! We may talk about activities we both enjoy doing, such as hiking with our dogs on the weekend, traveling, going to the beach, or reading a good book, laugh and feel all other emotions together.. I hope your experience with me as your therapist can feel genuine, relatable and authentic, as we work together to help you become the best version of you!
